Genesis 2:4 - 25

I. The Formation of Man - verses 4-7

1. Formed man of the dust of the ground

2. Breathed into his nostrils

3. Man became a living soul

II. The Home of Man - verses 8-14

1. Garden - "A protected place"

2. Tree of Life

3. Tree of knowledge of good and evil

III. The Service of Man - verse 15

1. Man's work was to care for the garden as a steward of God's world.

2. The Bible pictures work as good and meaningful.

3. The dignity and need of work was a part of creation.

IV. The Moral Responsibility of Mankind - verses 16-17

1. Man's life was to be limited by obedience.

2. The result of disobedience is stated to be death.

3. Man was separated from God the very moment he broke the bonds of love by disobeying.

V. The Authority of Man - verses 18-20

1. Man's original dominion and lordship over nature.

2. Not good - need for help meet for Adam

VI. The Companion for Man - verses 21-25

1. A helper suited for him

2. Each would help the other to become the best self possible.

3. God performed the first "wedding", giving marriage sanctity as part of His good creation.

Truths:

1. Man is uniquely related to God as the steward or trustee of His creation.

2. Man's freedom is found in faithfulness to his responsibility to God.

3. Right relationships free persons from shame and bring confidence.
