The Young Ruler Who Went Away

The Young Ruler Who Went Away
Mark 10:17-22

By Estelle Nazary

The Young ruler who went away...He went away!! Disciples were impressed with the young ruler - Matthew, Mark, Luke..

He chose NOT the BEST!

I His recognition
He recognized that what the world had to offer was not enough.
1. Success - financially secure, but not enough for happiness and peace. His heart was empty.
2. His power - power - had authority
3. His youth - He had no meaning to his life. He had no purpose to his life. Only God can fill the void or vacuum in our lives. Jesus could give him what he needed.

II. His request - verse 17
We are eternal creatures. eternal- Jesus defined it one time. In John 17:3, eternal life is to know by experiencing Jesus Christ. Quality - here and now. Quantity - and forever. Urgency - He came running, sought Jesus in a public place. He risked ridicule. He knelt down at Jesus' feet and asked "What must I do to be saved?" Incorrect concept - "do"
He had already kept the commandments. Salvation is a gift of God.

III. His response - verse 21
Jesus will never recognize another lord in my life. He will be Lord of all or not lord at all. Jesus loved him who had great potential. He went away sorrowful. Any walk away from Jesus is a walk downward. a walk toward hell. The young ruler died without Jesus. He went away!!! He failed to choose the best!
