Where is God?
Sermon by Jack Nazary
I. In the Garden - Genesis 3:8Adam and Eve could not get away from God - that is how it is when sin comes into our lives. He's going to find us every time.
David - Psalm 139:7-10
Jonah - Jonah 2:9 - He found that "salvation is of the Lord"
II. In the Burning Bush - Exodus 3:1-6
God reveals himself. Communes with man and manifests himself different ways in the bible. He spoke to Adam and to Moses - met them at the time of their need. He led Moses into the way and work God wanted him to do.
III. Over the tabernacle - Exodus 13:21-22
God revealed himself to Moses in a personal way, but wanted to reveal and manifest himself to the entire nation. The tabernacle built, carried along leading the way - by day a cloud, by night a pillar of fire signifying the presence of God. Shekinah - Glory of God - Not only revealed his presence but the way they should go.
IV. In the Still Small Voice - I Kings 19:11-12
Hindrance to hearing God's voice - Preoccupied, indifferent, strong self will, unwillingness to do his will, unconfessed sin.
V. In the Temple - Isaiah 6:1-5, II Chronicles 7:1-3
VI. In the Furnace - Daniel 3:23-26
In Afflictions, trials, and troubles, God will be with you by your side, an ever living presence (HE IS) to keep you and help you in the time of need.
VII. In the Incarnation
Isaiah 9:6 - "For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us" 740 years before Jesus - Isaiah prophesied. John 1:1-3; 1:14 - In the beginning..
How? - Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:22-23; Luke 2:7
VIII. On the Cross
Present on the cross - John 19:5 Pilate says "Behold the man" - WRONG - There was more than a man - The Christ died, buried, arose after 3 days, and appeared 11 times. John 20:23 - Thomas cried "My Lord and My God"
IX. In the Christian
John 14:16-17 = Talked about something none had experience before - Not Abraham, Not Sampson, Not disciples - did not have Holy Spirit in them, but later Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-20 and in Acts 2:1-4 the promise was fulfilled. Yes, God revealed himself in many ways, but "completely" in Jesus Christ, who went back to heaven and come back in person of Holy Spirit to indwell the believer - God's holy temple. 1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19; Romans 8:9-10.
Oh the glory of His presence - Now we can sing "And he walks with me and He talks with me and He tells me I am his own and the joys we share as we tarry there; none other has ever known.
