The Sin and Shame of Christian Tragedies

The Sin and Shame of Christian Tragedies
Sermon by Jack Nazary
West Jackson Baptist Church 1988

I. The tragedy of the sin and shame of unconfessed sin.
Proverbs 28:13 - He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

I John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

II. The tragedy of the sin and shame of the unopened Bible

II Timothy 2:15 - Study to show thyself

Psalm 119:11 - Thy word have I hid in mine heart

III. The tragedy of the sin and shame of an unforgiving spirit.

IV. The tragedy of the sin and shame of unshared salvation.
A. It's a sin against the conscience in the soul.
2 Timothy 1:3 - "I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day."

Acts 24:16 - "In view of this, I also do my best to maintain always a blameless conscience both before God and before men."

1 Peter 3:16 - and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.

B. A sin against the commission of Christ.
Luke 24:45-48 - Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. "You are witnesses of these things."

Matthew 28:19-20 -
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always , even to the end of the age."

Acts 1:8 -
but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

C. A sin against the Compassion of the Savior.

Matthew 9:36-38 -
Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. "Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest."

Matthew 14:14 -
When He went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and felt compassion for them and healed their sick.

Example - Matthew 10:33 - "Good Samaritan"

Luke 13:34 - "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not have it!

Example of Jay Strack in hotel during a singles' conference. Saw those people on the beach behaving questionably and went down and preached to them.

D. A sin that must be repented TODAY!
